About this CoPEH

A community of practice is a network of individuals and organizations that share common concerns or an interest in a particular topic, and work together to address specific challenges, and to further each others’ goals and objectives in that specific topic area.

The Community of Practice in Ecohealth for South and South East Asia (CoPEH-SSEA) was launched in April 2008 at the request of participants at the international Ecohealth and Sustainable Agricultural Development workshop, in Bangkok, hosted by VWB-VSF Canada. Representation included participants from government, NGOs, universities from seven countries in the region, as well as international organizations (UNICEF, FAO and the OIE).

The CoPEH-SSEA is part of a regional network of CoPEHs in different parts of the world. It is open to any person or organization interested in ecosystem approaches to addressing health issues across the region with a specific focus on addressing emerging infectious diseases (EIDs).

The CoPEH-SSEA links partners and their projects across the region, working across disciplines to develop Ecohealth pilot proposals, share knowledge and best practice, and engage more broadly in training workshops and other related activities.  The network has to date focused on developing projects to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Ecohealth approach – especially suited to overcoming animal and public health issues that are intertwined with the complex web of factors which have led to emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases (EIDs) and a range of other threats to the health of communities both within the region, and globally.
